|The patient care programs for the School of Medicine serve as the foundation for the education of tomorrow’s health care professionals. Patients are seen by qualified physicians in each clinic. Patients may also be seen by medical school students, but students visit with patients only when a physician is present. Receiving care in a medical school setting is unique in that the physicians treating patients are also teachers. They must remain up-to-date in new treatments and diagnostics, not only to better care for their patients, but to pass on that knowledge to resident physicians, physicians studying in a fellowship and medical school students. The dedication of the Health Sciences Center’s teacher-physicians and the cooperation of patients enable TTUHSC to train bright medical minds to handle the medical needs of the citizens of West Texas. Additionally, many members of the school’s faculty are involved in clinical research, hoping to unlock medical mysteries and aid in fighting disease and injury.
