The School of Nursing offers the only Doctor of Nursing Practice program in West Texas. The DNP is similar to practice doctorates in other professions such as Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and physical therapy (DPT). The program provides doctorate education to prepare nurses for leadership roles in advanced nursing practice, administration, clinical research and advanced academia.
DNP graduates will have the essential competencies to provide the highest level of clinical care and leadership necessary to advance the health care system of the 21st century. The program is unique in that there are two tracks: the advanced practitioner for the nurse practitioner and the executive leadership for nurse administrators.
Students are engaged in an innovative, state-of-the-art educational program which focuses on evidence-based practice, public policy advocacy, improving safety and organizational effectiveness, health informatics, population health, financial and business management and advanced specialty practice.
