A Message from the Department Chair
Matthew B. Grisham, PhD

I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of Immunology and Molecular Microbiology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). Our Department is composed of a group of faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows and staff, all of whom are dedicated to promoting high quality and cutting edge research, outstanding teaching and service to the university. Faculty with their primary appointments in our department as well as those with appointments in the Departments of Surgery, Opthamology, Internal Medicine, Urology, Immunotherapeutics and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences (at Texas Tech University) are members of the research concentration Immunology and Infectious Diseases (IID). Our innovative and productive faculty have established outstanding research programs focused on mucosal and tumor immunology, microbial pathogenesis and infectious diseases, and vaccine development. A major theme of our department is translating cutting-edge scientific discoveries into new therapeutic strategies that may be used to treat immunological and infectious diseases. We believe that an emphasis on translational research fosters an exciting educational and research environment that will serve to produce the next generation of well-trained and highly competitive biomedical scientists. Our department has been very successful in recruiting and educating a number of outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from throughout the U.S. as well as from around the world. Because TTUHSC is across the street from our 38,000 undergraduate and graduate student campus at Texas Tech University, we are presented with the unique opportunity to offer research training to a number of undergraduate students as well as providing research training to undergraduate students who come from different colleges and universities located throughout the U.S.

Please browse our departmental site to learn more about our department and contact us if we can provide you any additional information. I hope that you will join us for what we believe is an exciting and rewarding educational adventure!
