Our alumni have dedicated their lives to the betterment of others, and the School
of Pharmacy considers it a privilege to celebrate that commitment. The Distinguished
Alumni Award is the highest honor the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
bestows upon its alumni. The award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated leadership
in professional organizations, health care, and/or community service and whose accomplishments
and careers have brought significant credit to the TTUHSC School of Pharmacy.
Our 2015 honoree was Dr. Tadd Hellwig, a 2006 graduate. Hellwig went on to complete his residency in pharmacy practice
with Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware, and spent a year at the renowned
Mayo Clinic. He then took a position at South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy,
where he teaches second- and third-year students, as well as serving as a preceptor
for fourth-year students in internal medicine rotations.
Hellwig is described by staff and students as someone who motivates others to become
involved, challenging them to help solve problems and increasing their confidence
without making them feel incompetent. He has been recognized as the South Dakota State
University College Pharmacy Teacher of the Year and most recently as the South Dakota
Society of Health System Pharmacists 2014 Pharmacist of the Year.

Have you adopted your white coat?
Each year, the School of Pharmacy seeks the support of our faculty, staff, alumni
and donors for an important project: the White Coat Ceremonies.
The SOP Alumni Association Board decided several years ago to launch an "Adopt a White
Coat" initiative in conjunction with the School of Pharmacy. This initiative ultimately
aims to provide every incoming pharmacy student with a white coat.
To this end, the Alumni Association asks each of its members to support future SOP
students by sponsoring a white coat.
We all have experienced the excitement of putting on our white coat for the very first
time, the nervousness of walking into an unfamiliar environment on our first day of
class, and the countless hours of lectures, exams, and training. Our members can be
a part of that excitement.
The White Coat Ceremony emphasizes the importance of the SOP mission: to enhance the lives of the diverse people of Texas and beyond through excellence
and innovation in educating health care practitioners, researchers, and educators;
and providing pharmaceutical care and service.
Please join us in adopting a White Coat today! The cost to adopt one coat per student
is $50. Of course, any size gift is welcomed and multiple coats may be adopted.
To donate, please visit www.give2tech.com and select "Give Online." Then select the School of Pharmacy Fund for Excellence
for your donation.
You may also send a check payable to the Texas Tech Foundation, Inc. to "Adopt a White
Coat" at TTUHSC School of Pharmacy, 5920 Forest Park Road, Suite 400, Dallas, TX 75235.
Thank you again for considering this request. Your generosity will create a legacy
of support for generations to come!
