The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Psychiatry Counseling Center is staffed with counselors having some of the most years of experience in the Texas Panhandle.  From children, adults to older adults TTUHSC's Counseling Center offers counseling covering a variety of topics including: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, attention disorders, marriage, family relationships, work related problems, weight loss, abuse, job performance, depression and anxiety.

The Counseling Center providers are easy to talk with and can help with almost any issue.  You will find yourself, like others that have come in, leaving with a sense that you can overcome.  Here is a quick description of the counselors:

daynaDayna Schertler is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  She has been trained in CBT through the Beck Institute, Cape Cod Institute and by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress.  Ms. Schertler is also certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Trainer in CBT. She is one of only a few approved trainers in Texas. Ms. Schertler uses these scientifically researched methods to assist those looking for an alternative to medication or as a means to augment the benefit of medications. She works with Veterans, those with chronic and pervasive mental health issues and spends one day per week counseling in the TTUHSC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Lynna Hoyt is a Licensed Professional Counselor who joined the TTUHSC Department of Psychiatry in December 2009.  She brings twenty years of experience in the mental health field as a solo practitioner in private practice; as well as, in acute and long-term care psychiatric treatment facilities.  As Clinical Coordinator of Quest Residential Treatment Center, she worked with children and adolescents.  Part of her experience has been with children in basic care treatment settings.  Lynna's expertise includes several types of play therapy (structured, directive, non-directive, expressive, evidenced-based); as well as, counseling adolescents and adults through individual, group and family counseling.

eileenEileen Murphy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who brought her practice to TTUHSC in October 2009.  She has over thirty years of experience in the areas of adoption and foster care, in the mental health mental retardation system, Northwest Texas Hospital's Pavilion, Quest Psychiatric Hospital and in private practice. She has had training in Eclectic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is a Certified Hypnotherapist. She has extensive experience working with the geriatric population.
